American way

American Way
by Eric Myers, developed with Dan O'Reilly

A darkly comedic, media-saturated examination of “the history of the future of violence in America.” An attempt to convey a systems theory of violence and commerce in American culture, AMERICAN WAY is metaphor run rampant, a paranoid fantasia at inception that would begin to feel more like magical realism a few years later.  Its ideological narratives/narrative ideologies span the rise of the first performance artist superstar (who specializes in unsuccessful if spectacular suicide attempts website live on the Internet), the advent of widespread terrorist attacks on American soil (including the extermination of the entire Manatee species, with consequences expanding beyond the merely zoological), ancient conspiracy between George Washington and King George (along with recordings of phone calls between the two Georges to prove it) and a prognosticative projection of the tumultuous election of 2000.  AMERICAN WAY serves as both sermon and performance, philosophy and profanity, sublimity and silliness; it arouses extreme passions ranging from adulation to abhorrence in its audience.
