Lipstick

Lipstick is a silly, sweet farce with a heart of gold and a drawer full of sex toys. Anna has invited Kelly over for dinner, but is it a date? Or just hanging out? How could Anna know?! Is Kelly even gay?! Kelly wears earrings AND boots! Just in case that wasn’t confusing enough, a cavalcade of visitors crashes their evening - an ex-girlfriend, a nebby bestie, a handyman, a mom, and a parade of potential suitors. Hijinks, of course, ensue, in this play-shaped love letter to the queer community.

cast and crew
Dana Bauman (Anna) dressed up as Kate Jones for Halloween, but still isn't her. This is her first full length with Madlab, having previously been a very misleading dead woman in Roulette 2019, as well as an insanely desperate, jealous sister and The World's Worst Waitress in Young Writers 2019. She is most commonly seen in theaters in Columbus - either onstage or in the audience, laughing way too loudly - or following a cover band around so she can flirt with the bass player. Much love to Mom & Dad, Andrew, Me(a)gan, Musical Water Giraffe, and all who support local arts.

Brent Alan Burington (Hank) is a professional actor based in Columbus, Ohio. You may have seen him in television commercials for Big Boy Restaurants, AT&T, Ohio Lottery, Dayton International Airport, and the Cincinnati Zoo, or onstage as he has performed all over the country. Favorite roles include Scrooge in “A Christmas Carol,” Billis in “South Pacific,” Roy Cohn in “Angels in America” (named one of the 25 Best Performances in the United States in 2016 by Theatre Underground), and Higgins in “My Fair Lady” at the Covedale Center for the Arts in Cincinnati, which was named the Second Best Show of 2017 by the Cincinnati Inquirer. Much love to Mom and Matt, who always have his back.

Eva Espey (Kelly) is beyond grateful to for the opportunity to tackle her first show after moving to Columbus this Summer! Eva recently earned her bachelor's degree in Performance (Acting Concentration) from Point Park University’s Conservatory of Performing Arts in Pittsburgh, PA. Post-grad, she completed LAMDA’s intensive Shakespeare summer course in London, UK, as well as background work on an upcoming major motion picture and Netflix series, both in production. Favorite credits include The Leading Player (Pippin), Natalie (Next to Normal), and Logainne SchwartzandGrubenierre (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee). She’d like to thank everyone involved with the production, as well has her parents, pals, and partner for their support and all else.

Assistant Director Colleen Kochensparger (AKA Squid, Colleen #3, or Spicy Colleen) is a bisexual nerd who is absolutely thrilled to be working on such a gay play with such great people. In her real-person life, she's an elementary school librarian and hopes to one day marry and/or become Ms. Frizzle.

Dallas Ray (Bandit Guys) is pumped to be taking the stage in this MadLab comedy! When he's not being three short children stacked on top of each other in a trench coat or testing fate by napping before rehearsals, you can probably find him in the rafters of the theater screaming into the darkness and being so supportive of original works that it borders on aggressive.

Stephen Woosley (Director) is excited to be directing another full length at MadLab. He feels that Lipstick will fit beautifully with other full lengths he helped direct, like Stripped Away, The Downtown Job, and the NSA's Guide to Sex and Love. Huge thanks to his team of Colleens and Lexi. They've helped him keep his shit together.
