FRIDAY SHOWS

A young woman gives it her all when it comes to her passion for theatre.

Cast:
Marge: Maggie McCann
Juliet: Jasmine Smith
Sandra: Jessica Gibson
Directed by Constance Hester

Playwright: Jenny Morrison

This is Jenny’s first year as a young writer. She loves theatre more than pretty much everything else (books are a close second). She is a student at Hilliard Bradley and is heavily involved in her school’s theatre troupe, where she is an officer and has assistant directed and acted in many plays. When she has free time, she enjoys consuming media that features strong female leads. Her role models include Meryl Streep and Hermione Granger.

Cast:
David: Dallas Ray
Vanessa: Cat McAlpine
Alex: Erynn Robe
Austin: William Scarborough
Directed by Stephen Woosley and Nick Arganbright

Playwright: Emily Henderson

Emily Henderson is a senior at Hilliard Bradley High School. She is very excited to have her first play produced by MadLab. She has enjoyed writing for as long as she can remember. She finds inspiration from her friends, family, and Bob’s Burgers. She also desperately hopes that people will laugh at all of her jokes. In college, she wants to continue writing as well as explore the many options for her future. She would like to extend a huge thank you to anyone that has ever supported her.

Hope
written by Taylor McGowan - Columbus Academy
Ever feel like you have the weight of the world on your shoulders?

Cast:

Erika: Kristin Green
Kate: Julia Leet
Teacher: Sam Clements
Death: Shane Stefanchik
Slef-Loathing: Aylah Mendenhall
Anxiety: Taylor Davis
Melancholy: Samantha Eyler
Directed by Tay Lane

Playwright: Taylor McGowan
Taylor McGowan is currently a junior at Columbus Academy. She is new to MadLab and to playwriting, but not to theater; whether she's onstage, in the audience, or playing with power tools in the set shop, Taylor is happiest when she's working on a show. She cannot pick a favorite child among writing, music, and theater, so she hopes to conveniently fuse these together someday by writing musicals. She is thrilled and honored to see her work on the MadLab stage.

Quite Possibly The Worst Play Ever Written
written by Liam Flanigan - Bexley High School
Does art imitate life, or does life imitate art?

Cast:
Nick Watson: William Scarborough
Danny Presper: Jared Raines
Time Clute: Cameron Schneider
Chris Franklin: Matt Schlichting
Jamie Davis: Dallas Ray
Directed by Josh Kessler

Playwright: Liam Flanigan
Liam will be a senior at Bexley this fall, and has loved his first experience with MadLab. He has been involved with theatre since the fourth grade, but this is his first time writing a show. He would like to thank Tina Fey, his parents, and Franklin Delano Roosevelt, in that order.

SATURDAY SHOWS
The Void
written by Andrea Gapsch and Zoe Thomas - Hilliard Bradley High School
Does it ever feel like everything you've done has been for nothing?

 Cast:
Eliza Clark: Aylah Mendenhall
The Suit Man: Michael Moore
Khakis: Will Thompson
Mother: Emily Turner
Louise: Samantha Eyler
Directed by Carl Burgason

Playwrights: Andrea Gapsch and Zoe Thomas
Andrea has participated in theatre productions during her high school career, but this is her first play to be produced. She is so grateful for this amazing experience. She enjoys reading and writing (surprise!), as well as intramural ultimate frisbee and riding her razor scooter. She will be attending Ohio University's Honors Tutorial College to study English.

This is Zoe's second year participating in Young Writers. In addition to writing, she leads her school's book club and participates in marching band. She will be attending the Ohio State University in the fall. Zoe would like to thank her English teachers for teaching her to write, Andrea for tolerating her enough to cowrite a play with her, and her mom for driving her to every Mad Lab event since Zoe is terrified of the highway.
Picture

Hideaway Bay
written by Maddie Conley - Jonathan Alder High School
A getaway turns tragic for a group of teens.

Cast:
Julie: Erynn Robe
Bryant: Zach Throne
Cardin: Sidney Edson
Paisley: Hannah Woods
Directed by Michelle DiCeglio

Playwright: Maddie Conley

Maddie Conley is a junior at Jonathan Alder High School, and is super excited to be returning for a second year with Young Writers! Maddie plans to major in English, marry a Harvard graduate, and own a golden retriever. She'd like to thank her parents, who handle her car troubles, and Hannah Woods, who handles her life troubles.
Picture

Guardian Matchmaker
written by Kami Tibbles - Columbus Academy
What if you mixed a fairy godmother with a yenta?

Cast:
Guardian Angel: Chorsie Calbert IV
Lydia: Miranda Alch
Mel: Cat McAlpine
Directed by Madeline Jobrack

Playwright: Kami Tibbles
Kami is currently a senior at Columbus Academy. She first got involved with theater because she liked pushing buttons backstage and hasn't looked back since. Outside of theater, her talents include playing a mean jazz flute and bear-crawling really fast. Kami would like to thank her parents, her English teacher, and her cat, Peep, for believing in her.

Sarajevo, 1914

Franz Ferdinand hasn't always been a band name.

Gavrilo Princip: Joe Liles
Erik: Sam Clements
Hajna: Cat McAlpine
Raz Dorner: Cameron Schneider
Directed by Randi Morgan

Playwright: Rachel Phillips
Rachel is a senior at Reynoldsburg High School but also attends the Eastland Performing Arts Program. Though she enjoys being on stage, writing is her one true love. This is her first time working with MadLab. She remains undecided on her future major, but she plans on getting her Ph.D. and teaching at a university level. She wants to pursue writing as a side project, with plans to publish fantasy novels. Besides writing, Rachel loves history, music and keeping up on current events.

Ovaries River and Through the Woods
written by Kasey Belding, Hayley Fournier, Elliott Marrocco, and Joelle Odoguardi - Dublin Coffman High School
Spending time with your family over the holidays can be rough.  And sometimes you have to tell them you're pregnant...

Cast:
Brian: Cameron Schneider
Samantha: Erynn Robe
Mom: Julie Azelvandre
Grandma: Karen Benedict
Peggy: Angela Karen
May: Meaghan Vaders
Heath/Muriel: Greg McGill
Fetus: Keith Jackson
Directed by Kelley Freeman and Alex Greene

Playwrights: Kasey Belding, Hayley Fournier, Elliott Marrocco, Joelle Odoguardi

This is the first show that Kasey has written, but she is heavily involved in her school theatre department as an actor. She wants to thank Wooz for letting us call him that, Will T. for being the first Heath, and her co-playwrights for shooting down her idea of inexplicably putting one character in scuba gear for the entire show. Sorry about that one team.

This is Hayley's first year involved with the young writer's program, although she is actively involved with theatre and playwriting at Dublin Coffman High School. She would like to thank her fellow playwrites: Elliot, Joelle, and Kasey. She would also like to give a special thanks to Will Thompson for inspiring her sense of humor and writing skills.

Elliot is more heavily involved in acting rather than playwriting, but has loved this experience working with MadLab. When he's not involved in a show, Elliot can be found watching Star Trek: The Original Series or cutting his own bangs too short.

Joelle is a junior at Dublin Coffman, and this her first time with Young Writers. She has been involved with theatre since the 4th grade, spends most of (aka all of) her time doing shows with her school drama club, and plans on pursuing theatre in college. She can be seen this summer at Schiller Park in ATC's Pride and Prejudice as Lydia Bennet. She wants to thank her family for their constant love and support, her fellow playwrights for their creativity, and Wooz for his guidance and general chillness.
