tHEATRE rOULETTE 2022 CAST AND CREW BIOS
Abby Stoutenborough, an OSU Department of Theatre alum, is thrilled to be performing on the MadLab stage for the first time. She would like to thank her 17-year-old Build-A-Bear son Scruffy for being so supportive of her career.
Anna Defendiefer is super excited for her first performance with MadLab. She got her start in acting on the mock trial team at Ohio State, where she cried for points. She only does that occasionally now.
Ashley Collins is jealous that Green Night has all the Colleens. And Colleen D., Black Night ends in hell, so…there’s that.
Becky Horseman just wants to have a happy Roulette. So, everyone, be happy. Right now! Do it! Happy! Now!
Ben Wayne is just happy to be here. Have fun! Or don't. I'm a sentence, not your parent.
Briana Harger is happy to be working with MadLab. The last theater company she was with, the Ember Island Players, was a mess. They butchered "Love Amongst the Dragons" every year.
Casey Merkey is beginning to worry (just a little bit) about art imitating life.
Catherine Cryan is tickled pink to be playing with her MadLab friends in Red Night. Ask her about her adorable grandson - or stand still for two minutes - if she whips out her phone, you’re obligated to coo over baby Noah! Her favorite role is always the next one - got any parts for a short old lady?
Chloe Beck is excited to be in her first production with MadLab! Many thanks to her director and one of the many Colleens. If she could have lunch with anyone from SNL it would be Lorne Michaels. Yes, she has had her heart broken and is actively trying to become a better listener. In her free time she enjoys pina coladas and getting caught in the rain.
Colleen Dunne is thrilled to be in Red Night of her 8th Roulette, and that Green Night has the other 2 Colleens. Black Night can go to hell. (this is a joke, she loves Black Night and all of its non-Colleen participants)
Colleen Kochensparger is back where they belong: swimming in a sea of theatrical Colleens at MadLab, just how this whole so-called “theatre” thing started for them. Finally, they’ve been cast in the role they always knew they wood: a tree. They’ve really had to branch out for this role, and harken back to their roots, but they can’t wait to leaf it all out there on the stage. …twigs.
Dallas Ray is hyper-observant, has an eidetic memory, and always ends up being in the right place at the right time. This makes him an excellent detective; however, his impulsiveness, fear of commitment, and lack of follow-through prevented him from achieving a traditional career with the police.
David Gigliotti is elated to be performing in Roulette for the fourth time. He is 33 ⅓ of Savage Tech, and spends his remaining time trying to play the drums and learning Italian.
Douglas Gustafson’s mother was disappointed that his bio wasn’t in last year’s program. ARE YOU HAPPY NOW, MOM? ARE YOU???
Eduardo Esparza is very excited to be performing in his first ever Theater Roulette! Aside from being a born again theater kid, Eduardo performs with Veteran, hall of fame improv comedy troupe Donut Sundae (ig: @donutsundaecomedy). He can also be seen eating copious amounts of pizza, drinking Budweiser™ and fixing other people’s cars for free.
Emery Saunders is elated to participate in his second Theatre Roulette.
Eve Nordyke has been taking theatre classes at OSU as a Program 60 student for over 12 years where she acted, stage managed, built sets, designed sound, worked on costumes, and was a board operator and a stagehand. This is her first performance with MadLab, and she is thrilled to be a part of this theatre company.
Frances Diederich is very excited to return to the Madlab stage. She wrote this bio all by herself, and she’s very proud of it.
Hallie Mirzamani is elated to be a part of Green Night —she’s “green“ herself, as this is her first Theatre Roulette! She hopes to have fun, expand her acting chops, and learn how to appropriately thank the director for ”A Five.”
This is Jaclyn Hughes' first stageplay performance! Known primarily as an improviser, they are purely enthusiastic to play this role for the experience, with no expectation for excessive admiration or catalytic discovery whatsoever! Just doing it for the love of the art, and *Insert rhythmic snapping here* All. That. Jazz.
Jacob Erney is thrilled to be in his first Roulette as an Actor for Red Night. This is his third production with MadLab, the other two being the last two Young Writer’s Festivals. This is also his first show finally getting to work with his brilliant aunt, Cat Cryan, who to everyone’s confusion is playing his mother. Have fun sorting that out. Having studied acting at Case Western Reserve University, Jacob is trying and failing at not screaming internally as he begins actually trying to live as a professional actor. Jacob thanks his loving family and friends. Play On!
Jessica Gibson is happy to be in another year of Roulette! She’s also surprised to learn there is more than one definition for the word unicorn. Who knew.
John Grote is happy to be in another Roulette. He has hit the trifecta. He is in Red Night this year. He was in Black Night in December and Green in his first Roulette. Although no one cares except for him.
Julia Niedzwiecki Zucker is working tech for her first Roulette and is happy to be involved!
(J.)* Keith Jackson, having survived the events chronicled in the collection One Doozley of a Mystery!, had retired from investigation and was looking forward to finally participating in a Roulette as a mere actor. Unbeknownst to him, however, Colleen Dunne had blithely banished his entire cast on Black Night to Hell, having momentarily forgotten the trebled power she wielded during the Apocolleen formed by Green Night. Could the enigmatic winged figure above be his hope for salvation? Find out as he is tested anew!

Kelsey Yappel is participating in their first roulette and is super excited to have this opportunity. Outside of this, Kelsey is heavily involved in improv comedy and making/producing music. She is also an artist of many varieties, including but not limited to cartoons, tattoos (hmu), arts and crafts, and Pokémon.
Lane Schlicher goes by Lane Palmer on social media, and does not wish for you to follow him on anything…. Especially Tik Tok.
Lindsey Bowes is also called “ L.Bowes” and, YES, that IS pronounced like “elbows” but it’s NOT “elbows,” it’s “L.Bowes.” Lindsey is 33 ⅓ % of Savage Tech. This is her 4th Roulette.
Mark Tomsic plays Leibowitz in MadLab’s Routlette “Oh Tannenbaum” from which this is my first time in a production at MadLab (which I am stocked about). If you do not like reading thank you’s, you may skip to the next person’s bio *cue the Oscar music signaling you’re talking too much* (Gosh, learn how to be happy for others). Ha ha! Thank you to MadLab for the opportunity to join their theatre family. Colleen Kochensparger (Tannenbaum/Christmas tree) has been an incredible ray of sunshine with her warm, energetic and charming personality. They are not only an incredible actor but a supportive and welcoming person from which I could not have been luckier to have been partnered up with them. Lastly, thank you to our director, Stephen Woosley, for giving useful suggestions and tips throughout rehearsals. He is kind, patient, supportive and all around the best director a newer actor could ask for so thank you for the warm welcoming, as well. A big thank you to my good friends Ashley Collins and Sam Clements, who are also in this year’s Roulette, for introducing me to MadLab! Without them, I would not have had the confidence to even audition for this show; I love you both!
Nick Arganbright is an apathetic, socially inept, extremely sarcastic individual who has a keen ability for reading people's emotions although he can't seem to express his own.
Ricardo Jones is thrilled to be involved in another Roulette. Tap, tap. "Is this mic on?"
Rina Baumgartner is very excited for her first staged performance as Fiona in There Will Be Bears. You may have seen her around town performing with her improv comedy troupe, New & Improv’d. But if you’re not a fan of the arts, it’s okay: you can see her showing off her performance skills as an ethnically ambiguous waitress at the Bavarian bier hall, Hofbrauhaus Columbus.
Sam Clements has no idea that a bio’s been written on his behalf. It could say anything! But it doesn’t.
Sarah Merkey is playing a wife irritated by her husband, played by Casey Merkey. Or are they playing? Hmmmm. Also excited to be directing a Young Writers play at MadLab— come back in July!
Shaun Brown is back for his second Roulette moving from Black to Red night. He hopes to hit the same trifecta as John Grote next year.
Stephen Woosley is an American fitness personality, martial artist, actor, and the creator of the Tae Bo exercise program.
Susie McGarry is directing and might or might not be acting in Black Night.
Tay Lane is on the MadLab stage again after more than a decade (excluding Rudolph). And she’s actually not playing an axe-murderer. See, y’all, look after your mental health!
Tori Simmons is delighted to make her acting debut in Black Night (unless we want to count the time she played bird #3, a made up role, in Into the Woods while she was in high school). Outside of Theater Roulette, Tori spends most of her time making up scenes through performing improv comedy at The Nest Theatre and with her group Belated Hello.
William Macke serves as Artistic Director for MadLab. He’s happy to be here for another Roulette, where he’s serving as Curator, Director, and Actor for Black Night 2022. [Insert something clever and funny here.]
Zachery Franklin is excited for his first Roulette for MadLab. He has been cast in shows such like All Shook Up as Chad, two characters in With Their Eyes, Suessical The Musical as Horton, Fires in the Mirror as a Pastor and Carmel Cato, Midsommer Theatre Professor’s Dream as Thomas/Oedipus, Stop Deforestation as Michael, Session 76 as Eddie, and Back to the 80s as Stevie Cocker. I want to thank my friends, my family, and my girlfriend for their love and support in my career. And finally, Swag, they’ll know what it means.
Zed Henson; is.
