Bakkee
Bakkee
by Eric Myers and Dan O'Reilly
EA futuristic reconstruction of the ancient Greek classic performed environmentally with multiple staging areas in a fortress-like warehouse. With an audio/visual assault of sturm and drang befitting a Dionysian reveal, the show wins a bunch of awards and becomes the company’s first official albatross, the stench of the decaying corpse of which can still be experienced whenever someone asks: “when is MadLab gonna do something like BAKKEE again?” (Answer: when someone funds it at a level that allows our protagonist to play Dionysus without unintentionally resorting to stress-induced, if authentic, method acting in his portrayal of the god of wind and insanity...) BAKKEE was nominated for The Greater Columbus Arts Council’s Artistic Excellence Award. This is the first time MadLab has been nominated for this prestigious award.
