Erin is dead, and now Sam, her lover and partner, is left to fulfill Erin’s dying wish: she wants a home funeral. Some of Sam’s fun duties include cleaning her body, plugging her holes, sitting with her in their home for two days watching her rot, and digging a hole in the ground to put her in. And Sam is not up to it. Sure, his small group of twisted friends helps, and so does the weed, not to mention his unhealthy obsession with the epic love story of Jack and Rose from Titanic, but dark humor and a killer buzz aren't enough to pull Sam through this living nightmare of a funeral. When all seems lost, Sam turns to the woman he feels hates him most in the world -- Erin’s mother -- and together they struggle to figure out how they can go on in a world without Erin.

WHAT IS HOME FUNERAL?

A home funeral is a family or community-centered response to death and after-death care.  Families and communities may plan a key role in:

  1. -Planning and carrying out after-death rituals or ceremonies (such as laying out the deceased and home visitation of the body.

  2. -Preparing the body for burial or cremation.

  3. -Filing of death-related paperwork such as the death certificate.

  4. -Transporting the deceased to the place of burial or cremation.

  5. -Facilitating the final disposition such as digging the grave in natural burial.

  6. -Home funerals may occur within the family home or not.  (Some nursing homes, for example, may allow the family to care for the deceased after death.)

  7. -The emphasis is on minimal, non-invasive, and environmentally-friendly care of the body.

  8. -Support and assistance to carry out after-death care may come from home funeral educators or guides, but their goal is to facilitate the maximal involvement of the family and its social network.
