Brad Shimp retired in 2013 to pursue his interest in improvisational theater and acting. Shimp has been involved with improvisation for over seven years and has received training from such notable teachers as Michael Gellman, Second City Chicago; Susan Messing, Annoyance Theater Chicago; Tara DeFrancisco, I.O. Theater Chicago; Chris Lane, MadLab Theatre and other local and national instructors. Shimp is the manager of Not From Concentrate, a central Ohio, long and short form improvisation troupe. The group has performed at many central Ohio venues including the Funny Bone Comedy Club, Studio 35, Wild Goose Creative, MadLab Theater, and the Gateway Theater. Shimp also performs with the Harold Team at First Beat Theatre and has done several two person improv shows around town.

 

Shimp is currently a co-producer of Improv Wars at Studio 35, which is series of shows produced by IW Productions. Improv Wars is a short form improv comedy “competition” between the more than 15 improv troupes in Central Ohio.

 

Before retirement, Shimp was the President/CEO of Community Capital Development Corporation (CCDC). Shimp joined CCDC in 1993. Prior to being named President in 2000, Shimp served as Assistant Director after being the manager of the Microloan Program and various other economic development loan programs. While President, Shimp facilitated a staff of 10 professionals that provided loans to small businesses throughout Ohio. The programs included the SBA 504 Program, the Ohio 166 Program, the City of Columbus Economic Development Loan Programs, the Franklin County Growth Fund, and the Grove City Town Center loan program.

 

Prior to joining CCDC, Shimp was the Executive Director of the University Community Business Association, an economic development and planning organization in the Ohio State University District. Before that, he managed Cleveland’s first storefront improvement program in historic Ohio City, initiating a number of economic and business development activities.

 

Shimp has served on many non-profit boards and advisory boards. Shimp currently serves on the Community Advisory Board for Fifth Third Bank. He is currently the Treasurer of the Ann Sherry Foundation after serving as the founding President. In July Shimp was invited to serve on the Board of Directors of MadLab Theatre. Shimp and his wife Cathy Bregar established “Kringle Project” a program that for twenty-one years has raised over $100,000 to purchase toys for children during the holidays served by Neighborhood Services.

 

He has served as President for numerous other non-profit organizations including the North Market Development Authority; the University District Organization; the Community Crime Patrol, and the Community Youth Mediation Program.

 

Shimp graduated from Michigan State University with a B.A. in Psychology, and Cleveland State with a M.Ed. in Education. He is a Certified Economic Development Professional (NDC) and completed a month long training course in Neuro-Linguistic Programming at the University of California, Santa Cruz.

 

Shimp is married and lives in Delaware, Ohio.
